Self-Organizing Multiagent Approach to Optimization in Positioning Problems

چکیده
The facility positioning problem concerns the location of facilities such as bus-stops, fire stations, schools, so as to optimize one or several objectives. This paper contributes to research on location problems by proposing a reactive multiagent approach. Particularly, we deal with the p-median problem, where the objective is to minimize the weighted distance between the demand points and the facilities. The proposed model relies on a set of agents (the facilities) situated in a common environment which interact and attempt to reach a global optimization goal: the distance minimization. The interactions between agents and their environment, which is based on the artificial potential fields approach, allow us to locally optimize the agent’s location. The optimization of the whole system is then obtained from a self-organization of the agents. The efficiency of the proposed approach is confirmed by computational results based on a set of comparisons with the k-means clustering technique.

Location problems optimization by a self-organizing multiagent approach
The Facility Location Problem (FLP) requires locating facilities in order to optimize some performance criteria. This problem occurs in many practical settings where facilities provide a service, such as the location of plants, bus-stops, fire stations, etc. Particularly, we deal with the continuous version of location problem where facilities have to be located in an Euclidean plane. This pape...
متن کاملDesign Patterns for Self-Organizing Multiagent Systems
Natural systems are currently being regarded as rich sources of inspiration for engineering artificial systems, particularly when adopting the multiagent system (MAS) paradigm. To promote a systematic reuse of mechanisms featured in self-organizing systems, we analyse a selected list of design patterns for recurrent problems in the literature. Starting from our reference MAS metamodel, we provi...
متن کاملSolving the flexible job shop problem by hybrid metaheuristics-based multiagent model
The flexible job shop scheduling problem (FJSP) is a generalization of the classical job shop scheduling problem that allows to process operations on one machine out of a set of alternative machines. The FJSP is an NP-hard problem consisting of two sub-problems, which are the assignment and the scheduling problems. In this paper, we propose how to solve the FJSP by hybrid metaheuristics-based c...
متن کاملAn Approach to Collaboration of Growing Self-Organizing Maps and Adaptive Resonance Theory Maps
Collaboration of growing self-organizing maps (GSOM) and adaptive resonance theory maps (ART) is considered through traveling sales-person problems (TSP).The ART is used to parallelize the GSOM: it divides the input space of city positions into subspaces automatically. One GSOM is allocated to each subspace and grows following the input data. After all the GSOMs grow sufficiently they are conne...
متن کاملModel and analysis of local decision based on cooperative self-organization for problem solving
This paper presents an approach based on cooperative self-organization for artificial systems, in order to tackle openness and dynamics. In this work, cooperation is used as a local criterion enabling parts of the system –the cooperative agents– to reorganize as to autonomously modify their interactions and then the global function. The difficulty in defining cooperation and the means to reesta...
